We are a small family-run business who bore this company out of love for the grain and the wish to share its unique properties among the general public.
Too often the answer to many of our queries is right in front of our eyes … and so is how this company was conceived. In my quest to find gluten-free, gut-friendly alternative cereal, I had experimented with various grains from quinoa to sorghum and rice. Yet it was with the humble teff that the penny finally dropped. Teff is a tiny grain, yet highly commended by nutritionists for being kind on the gut and nutritionally rich. I had grown up consuming it daily, typically as a common traditional sourdough savoury pancake (called injera).
Injera is made with three basic ingredients: Teff flour, water and sourdough starter. Left to ferment for a few days, it is baked into a fluffy and spongy gluten free flatbread, without the need for gum and/or starch as is commonly added into commercial Gluten Free breads.
Challenge breeds creativity as they say and when restricted with gluten-free diet I have realised the versatility of teff: from savoury to sweet and from fluffy pancake to breakfast flakes. I have tried to share this passion in my recipe section.
I have since made it my mission to re-discover this amazing grain and appreciate its many manifestations as an ingredient to global cuisine(s).
The aim of my company is thus to share the goodness of teff by supplying high quality authentic teff products alongside its rich heritage to consumers around the world.
Enjoy and appreciate this tiny, but mighty grain.
